The INSANITY Journey: Complete

For those of you who have been bombarded by my updates on Facebook, it may seem like I’ve been doing INSANITY forever, but it turns out that my 63 day journey has already come to a completion.  I say “already”, because it still feels like I’m just getting started, not like I’m ending.  However, the schedule is completed, so here we are…

Since I’ve been saving all the juicy details for the end of the program, it’s time to finally share the results:

Over the past 9 weeks, I’ve managed to lose 11.4 pounds.  Compare that to my goal to lose 15 pounds this year, and I’m already well on my way.  It’s even more impressive when you consider that I lost 22 pounds last year, bringing me down to a much fitter 233.8 pounds, or more than 33 pounds lighter than I was just 14 months ago.

Before I get to the pictures, I do have to say that if you want to take on INSANITY, make sure you go all in.  It’s well worth the results.  I was a bit overwhelmed by the idea of having 6 scheduled workouts per week, but it’s not as hard to fit in as it sounds (and I say that with two young kids and having to travel for work periodically).  Even on the days when I had 70+ minute workouts ahead of me, it felt like more of a challenge than a duty, and it really paid off.  There were two different weeks in the program when I lost 3+ pounds in a week, and that’s basically without a significant change in diet.

And make sure you do the exercises right, and listen to Shaun T when he talks about form.  There were more than a few exercised to which I responded “You want me to do what?!?” the first time they were introduced, but I was able to do them successfully as the weeks went on.

Now, for the before and after slideshow (hopefully the shots are ok, as my lovely assistant wasn’t available to take the after pictures, so I had to ask the assistance of an ironing board, some books, and the camera timer):

Ok, ok…so no washboard abs, but I’m definitely in a lot better shape then when I began.  Thanks, Shaun T for pushing me, and not making me want to punch the TV!

I also made a lot of progress with the Fit Test in the program, so not was I only losing weight, but I was getting stronger too!

I can’t say enough good things about INSANITY.  For years, I had eschewed workout videos, but knew I needed something more to get me through the cold and snowy Pennsylvania winters.  INSANITY definitely did the job, and then some.

Now, bring on the running!  And I’ll see Shaun T again later in the year to push myself once again.
