A bit of a throwback this week, as I go back to my high school days for material. To this day, this is probably my favorite Third Eye Blind song coming off of a terrific self-titled album, Third Eye Blind. Even though it was Semi-Charmed Life and Jumper that got all the attention off this album, it’s this song that really connected for me. Plus, I did it for karaoke a few weeks ago, so it’s fresh in my mind. (Thankfully, nobody booed me!)
Besides the autoharp feature (YES!), I simply love the raw emotion that shows in this song. Yes, it’s a breakup song, which doesn’t quite resonate as strongly with married father me as it did with “somebody love me” teenage me. Yet, every time I hear it I still want to shout along “HOW’S IT GOING TO BEEEEEEEE…WHEN YOU DON’T KNOW MEEEEEE…ANYMOOOOOOOORRRRREEEEE”.
And, no, the band didn’t disappear after this debut, though their subsequent albums weren’t as well received, I’ve found them to be just as strong (so you’ll probably be hearing more at some point in the future). The band is still together and touring today.
