Midweek Music Break: Hootie and the Blowfish – Let Her Cry

It was 1994 and Hootie and the Blowfish were blowin’ up all over the country.  Their contagious, laid back, loose and folksy music caught the ears of music fans across the country, and I was no exception.

However, the song that stuck with me over the years is “Let Her Cry”…

In what may have been a foreshadowing of Darius Rucker’s country music career, “Let Her Cry” is an emotional and powerful song of love, addiction and struggle.  Actually, for such a beautifully done song, it’s almost easy to overlook that it’s a song about a girlfriend struggling with drinking and drug addictions.

Along with the powerful lyrics, add in Rucker’s spot-on vocals and an exquisite arrangement, and you have a song that is built to last.

And that is has for me, even 20 years later…
