Midweek Music Break: Everclear – Portland Rain

With the new Everclear video being debuted later this week, it seems like a good time to revisit their catalog.  (Besides the fact that they still reign as my favorite band.)

“Portland Rain” comes off the band’s 7th album, it’s first after leaving Capitol Records and making some changes to the band’s lineup. Overall, I think there’s a lot of great tracks on this album, but Portland Rain comes across as a little more personal than the rest. It’s a moody, pleading breakup song that reeks of loss and regret.

As he often does, Art Alexakis paints a bold and personal story in just a few minutes, that many can relate to. And while it’s about life’s struggles, I can keep listening to it over and over…
