A few years ago, I was traveling for work, and while I got my stuff in order for the next day, I was flipping through the channels and ended up watching a little of a terrible game show called Oh Sit!. For whatever reason, they had an act playing during some portions of the show, by the name of Gin Wigmore. I thought the whole thing was just weird, but then I couldn’t get the songs out of my head and the name stuck.
Shortly thereafter, I looked into Gin Wigmore some more and fell in love with Gravel & Wine, which is a great album from start to finish. It’s been in my regular rotation since, with her bold and gritty voice, it’s hard not to enjoy.
Just a few weeks ago, Gin released her third album, Blood to Bone, and it’s off to a similar great start. It’s definitely different from Gravel & Wine, but feels more like an evolution than a departure.
Below is one of the early singles off the album, “New Rush”, which has a more modern feel than much of Gravel & Wine, but does a great job of capturing the lyrics in the feel of the music, while again showcasing Gin’s trademark voice.
It’s great to hear more great music from an artist I already enjoy, rather than be disappointed.
