Midweek Music Break: Émile Waldteufel – The Skater’s Waltz

During the holidays, I have a strange proclivity towards classical and orchestra-inspired music.  And Waldteufel’s Skater’s Waltz is a shining example:

A great musical journey that showcases each of the primary orchestral groups is both soothing and engaging at the same time.  It sets one adrift in thought, and conjures up images of ice, snow and grace.  (Though, admittedly, I lack the latter when the first two are involved.)

It’s a great scene setter for the holiday season, even if it has been in the 60’s in Pittsburgh for half of December…
