Rockies Use Christian-Based Code of Ethics To Guide Team

A very interesting article from USA Today that you may have missed:

Baseball's Rockies seek revival on two levels

It is interesting to read the comments from those outside the organization, who seem to have mixed feelings on the religious influence.

What's wrong with putting together a team of guys who try to live life the right way? It's much better than looking the other way when guys make a major mistake.

I dont think that the critics see a problem with an ethicly based team agenda. I believe what people might be wary of is a "christian" based agenda. When religion plays a part in a non-religiously based function, people are, understandable, cautious about what role religion might be playing in the future of the event.

One thing I find personally questionable is the emphasis on God being the one to pull the team through, not the lack of boozing the team is doing. It was the choice of the players NOT to become lushes that turned them around, not "Angels in the Outfield". If it was a Christian code of ethics that did it for them, I applaud them being ethical, I simply wonder that they're putting such a heavy emphasis on ONE code of ethics.

In the article, they bring up many good points, but it gives me chills when I hear things like God played a part in it, or would Babe Ruth not be allowed to play on this team, or we have a good bunch of guys who all attend bible study.

What is the dynamic, do we have enough information? Seems like there are gaps in the article which give way to filling in with our own conclusions.
