A Couple of Projects

I just thought I'd point out a few projects that have been keeping me busy in the last few months which are now rolling full force on the web.

First, the Ballan Real Estate website which I worked on with my friend Wade. A pretty simple site here using just HTML and CSS. I would have liked to do a little ColdFusion work to allow the company to update their lot profiles and other details, but they only wanted simple, and that's what we gave them.

Second, the Red Sox Faithful site was finally launched during the MLB All-Star game last Tuesday. It's basically a ColdFusion version of the forums we had in PHP over at RedSox2000 the last few years. Basically, the old site had gotten bogged down in spam and difficult interface, so I tried my hand at rewriting the forums from scratch. I'm happy with how they came out, but I'm still tweaking a few things here and there.

I'm sure the Red Sox Faithful site will keep me busy in the coming months as I add features and work out bugs, but I'll also be planning on re-engineering my blogging platform in CF8 into something that is a little more full-featured (like with a real admin panel and can run multiple blogs at once). That will be my big intro to CF8 and all it's new features, and I'm looking forward to tackling the project.

You may notice a few changes here, but the biggest change is that I've bumped this blog up to the top level of my domain. The links should redirect automatically, but just in case any of the changes don't work, I just wanted y'all to be aware.

Well, I've made some changes to the appearance of the blog. Pretty major changes, but the same general feel. I just wanted to give it a more professional appearance.

Any opinions?

The really good news is that I'm now more able to adapt layouts to fit my blog software, and this came together in just a few evenings!

Update: Aparrently we're having a few issues with IE 6 (what else?), which I'll try to look into this evening.

Update #2: I think I've gotten all the IE 6 and IE 5.5 issues resolved now. Let me know if you have any othr problems.

In my transition to the new host, I just realized that my verification image wasn't coming up right in the comments. My bad…I'm still getting my new directory structure in order.

Anyway, feel free to drop me a line!

Also, one week into my pop-free month, and I'm still hanging in there. Had some bad cravings the other day, but managed to steer clear!

Just a quick FYI, but if you notice the site missing at any point over the next several days, I'm switching web hosts, so there may be a brief outage. Hopefully I'll get it all straightened out by the end of the weekend!

We've Got The Look

So, I've probably had most of this done for almost a month now, but I'm just finally rolling it up from my development environment. I decided to pick apart the template to get a layout and look that felt more like mine and less like somebody else's template I slapped on my site. Besides, I started to feel that the old look was getting a bit gloomy with all the grey and dim blue. Now I've got a few more touches to give it some pop.

There's also a number of other changes, but most of them are in the background and you might not even notice them.

So I've been working the last week or so on getting album covers to show up with my Last.FM charts on the right, and I finally got them set up using Amazon Web Services. Pretty darn cool, huh? Or maybe it's just me!

Oh, well! I did them from scratch, and I really wanted them, and now I've got them! Yay!

So, I've finally gotten around to making many of the changes I've been looking to. Besides the new look, you may notice that the comments section has changed (you no longer have to log in), tagging has been added, and there are a few new blocks on the right. It's a pretty major overhaul, but the site needed it. Anyway, there's still a few things I'd like to add like a photos module (preferably with Flickr or another photo sharing service) and more. So that'll come eventually.

Anyway, let me know what you think of the new setup!

So, thanks to the Last.FM feed that shows the music info at the top of my page getting corrupted, my blog has been unavailable for a few days. Looks like they corrected the issue once I sent them the bug.

However, it did get me to scramble to work on my updates to the site over the last few days, so I'm hoping to get them up over the weekend. Then we'll be rockin!

Hey everyone!

I've got some plans in the works to make some pretty radical changes here on the blog, but I've had a hard time finding time to do them. Well, that and the desire to do them as well…need both at the same time.

That said, I have made many of the changes already over at my If Jesus Had A Website site, but even that is still in the works. Plus, add in all the little personal touches I want to add here and the work takes some time.

So, eventually I'll get it done, so don't be shocked if you suddenly don't recognize my blog one day!
